I began working with soft pastels as part of my own spiritual journey by creating meditation mandalas. I imagine inside the circle is the the inner life outside borders reflect the visible world. This meditation practice led me to offer workshops to share the connections between art, symbol, and personal life transitions. ​I have continued this personal practice for many years adding oil pastel work. 
​The series of women's "portraits" were inspired by a few portraits a four-year-old friend did of me. I can't seem to stop imagining all the personalities of women that emerge onto the paper. Some are friends and relatives, some I still wonder "who are they?"
